Welcome! The Association of Law and Political Economy (ALPE) is dedicated to the production of scholarly knowledge by academics, researchers, organizers, practitioners, and others committed to centering issues of political economy in the study of law.
We seek to facilitate scholarship (which we define capaciously to include writing, teaching, advocacy) that deepens our understanding of law’s relationship to questions of economic and democratic equality through various theoretical lenses and methods, with particular attention to issues of inequality, power, subordination, and intersectionality. The Association is committed to developing LPE as a field furthering scholarly conversations and interdisciplinarity, and promoting LPE scholarship. The Association also seeks to develop scholarly work that is part of a larger project of imagining and working towards a more democratic, fair, egalitarian, inclusive, and sustainable future.
To achieve these ends, ALPE serves as a membership organization that offers a broad annual conference, along with other gatherings and programming. The Association will also work to cultivate emerging scholars and engage with students and student groups. It will aim to foster an engaged community, and to shape broader public understanding, to develop policy-relevant knowledge and contribute to reform efforts.
